Ibiza has a reputation for being expensive, but a lot of the best of the island costs nothing. Every beach is public and free by law, viewpoints charge no entry, and every autumn the villages hold their patron saint festivals with live music, traditional folk dancing and open-air parties for everyone. This guide gathers the free plans with confirmed dates in our calendar for the coming weeks, plus the basics you can do any day of the year.

Village festivals: the most authentic free Ibiza
Each parish on the island celebrates its patron saint with several days of programme: mass and procession, ball pagès (traditional Ibizan folk dancing in period costume), concerts, community paellas and an evening party or fireworks. Everything is free to attend. In autumn the calendar moves north and east: Santa Teresa in Es Cubells in mid-October, Sant Carles in early November and Santa Gertrudis in mid-November. It is the best time to see the island the residents know, far from the club circuit.
Seasonal fairs and food
The Fira de la Sal in Sant Jordi celebrates the history of the salt flats with local producers' stalls, workshops and family activities. In November, the Festa del Vi Pagès in Sant Mateu, held in the village square since 1993, offers a free public tasting of vi pagès (traditional country wine from the Albarca valley) with sobrassada, coal-grilled butifarró and live music, with no ticket or booking needed. At the Fira de la Sal entry is free and whatever you buy at the stalls is paid separately.
Free museums and cinema
MACE (Ibiza's Museum of Contemporary Art) and Museu Puget, both in Dalt Vila, have free-entry exhibitions this autumn, and Cineforum Eivissa screens original-language classics with a discussion at no cost.
