If you are planning what to do in Ibiza this week, 3 to 10 November is a lovely moment to be on the island. The summer crowds are long gone, the light is soft and golden, and the calendar is full of village fiestas, art exhibitions, comedy nights and weekend markets. Most of it is free, and all of it feels authentically Ibizan. Here is a day-by-day guide to the best events in Ibiza this week, with the practical details you need to turn up and enjoy them.

Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 November: Art, Caves and the Sant Carles Fiestas

Start the week on the cultural side. In Dalt Vila, the Museu Puget is hosting I al mar, els somnis, a large retrospective of Swiss painter Hans Grass, whose canvases drew heavily on the light and landscapes of Formentera. Down in the old town, the MACE (Museu d'Art Contemporani d'Eivissa) is showing Cel d'Or, a site-specific intervention by Mexican artist Stefan Brüggemann conceived for Ibiza. Both are free to visit and run until Sunday 8 November, so you have plenty of time to fit them in. The MACE opening hours listed are 10:00 to 14:00, so go in the morning.

If you would rather be underground, the Cova de Can Marçà in the north of the island runs guided cave tours every day this week from 10:30 to 19:30. Tickets cost between €9 and €15, and the route through illuminated chambers, stalactites and underground pools is a perfect rainy-day or cooler-day plan. It was once a smugglers' hideout, which adds a little drama.

Then comes the highlight of Wednesday: the Festes de Sant Carles de Peralta on 4 November. The village in the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu celebrates its patron saint with a mass and procession at midday, traditional ball pagès folk dancing from the Colla de Sant Carles, a hippy market through the pedestrian streets in the afternoon and live music into the evening. Entry is free. Take a moment to look at the church itself: its three-arched porch is among the most elaborate in the Ibizan countryside, and the apse keeps Italian stucco esgrafiats. Combine the visit with lunch at one of the village's famous bars and you have a perfect off-season day out.

Also on Wednesday, the AMAE collective exhibition opens at the Centre Cultural de Jesús (open daily from 09:30 to 20:00 until 20 November), gathering work by many island artists in different styles. If you enjoy a weekly workout with a view, the Group Social Trail Run meets at 09:00 through the pine forests and coastal trails. It costs €4, no registration is needed, and the meeting point changes each week, so check the location before you set off.

Thursday 5 November: Live Music, Vinyl and a Night at the Theatre

Thursday is a great evening for live music in Ibiza, and almost all of it is free. From 19:00, Ibiza Vinyl Club runs its weekly winter MicroRave at Las Dalias, an all-vinyl session with DJs digging into their own collections, records for sale and no entry fee until midnight. It runs every Thursday from October to April.

At 20:00 you have two lovely singer-songwriter choices. Ibizan singer and guitarist Azahar Lopez plays at the Cas Costas restaurant near Can Bellotera, and the duo Sam & Iván bring blues and soul to Can Jordi Blues Station in Sant Josep. Both are free and both are intimate, which is exactly what the quiet season is about.

Prefer a night at the theatre? Comandante Lara y Cía. brings its stand-up and sketch show to the Teatre Can Ventosa in Ibiza Town at 21:00 (tickets €20). Alternatively, enjoy a relaxed drink at the Thursday Happy Hour at Es Birra in Es Canar, from 19:00 to 22:00.

Friday 6 November: Farm Market, Cinema and the Humour Festival

Begin Friday with a stroll through the Mercat de Sa Cooperativa in Santa Eulària, a zero-kilometre farmers' market that runs from 09:00 to 14:00. Local fruit, vegetables, cheeses, wine and crafts from island producers make it one of the best places to shop like a local. Arrive early for the best choice and pick up something for a picnic.

In the afternoon, the Cruise Crush Boat Party sails from 14:30 to 17:30 (from €69) for those who want a final taste of the sea, with DJ sets on deck and swim stops in sheltered coves. If you want something calmer, the free Divendres de Cine at Can Jeroni in Sant Josep shows A Real Pain by Jesse Eisenberg in original version with Spanish subtitles at 20:00.

The big evening news is comedy. The XVII Ibiza Humour Festival continues at Can Ventosa, with comedian Isabel Rey on stage at 20:00. The festival offers five days of stand-up and variety shows for all audiences, organised with the Ajuntament d'Eivissa and the Consell d'Eivissa, and tickets are €20. Late-night options include the Mojito Beach Club, which has house and Latin rhythms from 22:00 with free entry, and Casanova Nitos in Sant Antoni, where the weekly stand-up night this week features Alber Vil (reservations by WhatsApp).

Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November: Markets, Heritage Walks and an Obstacle Race

Saturday is market day. The Mercat de Forada, on the road between Sant Rafel and Santa Agnès, is open from 10:00 to 16:00 with local produce, honey, wine, handmade goods and second-hand finds. The famous Las Dalias hippy market is open from 10:00 to 17:00 with around 200 stalls in the garden at Sant Carles, plus food stalls and a children's area. Free entry to both, and together they make a very easy Saturday.

For history lovers, the Ajuntament d'Eivissa's heritage itineraries are back. The guided walk Els edificis emblemàtics starts at 10:30 in Plaça de la Catedral and is free, and there is also a theatrical visit to Dalt Vila this weekend. These are the best ways to understand the walled old town, and the cool autumn weather makes the climb much easier than in August.

If you are feeling energetic, the Sant Carles Xtrem obstacle race takes place at Las Dalias from 15:45 (the main Xtrem Absoluta starts at 16:00, entry €6, with free children's categories). In the evening, comedian Rubén García performs at Can Ventosa at 20:00 on the Saturday of the Humour Festival.

Families will enjoy El viatge de la Nuru, a 60-minute children's show by Festuc Teatre as part of L'Illa a Escena (€5). Sunday closes the Humour Festival with two sessions of Perdido en los 80, a nostalgic comedy show about the 1980s, at 18:00 and 20:00 at Can Ventosa.

Practical Tips for Ibiza in Early November

  • Check opening hours. Many venues have reduced schedules in the off-season. Confirm times on the event page on ibiza-calendar.com before you set off.
  • Bring layers. Evenings can be cool, especially in the hills and by the sea. A light jacket is useful for outdoor fiestas.
  • Hire a car for the villages. Sant Carles, Forada and Can Marçà are easier to reach with your own transport, though buses serve the main towns.
  • Book comedy tickets early. The Humour Festival is only five days long and Can Ventosa is a small theatre.
  • Embrace free events. Exhibitions, village fiestas, vinyl nights and cinema are all free this week, so you can build a rich itinerary on a modest budget.
