Autumn is when Ibiza's live music scene shows its true colours. The big summer crowds have gone, the terraces are quieter, and the island's own musicians take centre stage. If you are looking for live music in Ibiza this week, the programme from Wednesday 21 to Sunday 25 October is rich, mostly free, and spread across beach bars, village restaurants, hotel gardens and one very handsome chamber-music hall in Ibiza Town.

Below is our pick of the week: rumba on the sand, a flamenco-urban fusion under the stars, reggae on the Sant Josep road, a grand finale for a much-loved concert cycle, and a classical evening that proves the island has a refined side too.

Wednesday 21 October: Rumba by the Sea and Sunset Sounds

Start the week at Chiringuito Cala Escondida, the beach bar that has moved this season to the southern end of Platja d'en Bossa, next to the Torre des Carregador. From 18:30 to 20:30, Los del Varadero play an afternoon of rumba and pop. The duo, made up of Sant Antoni singer-guitarists Ruben Rubio and Manu Campana, are local favourites, and entry is free. Arrive a little before six, grab a table close to the water, and let the light do the rest.

If you would rather watch the sun go down on the west coast, the Café del Mar Sunset Session #203 in Sant Antoni starts at 18:00. Resident DJs play the ambient, Balearic sound the bar has been known for since 1980, and entry is free. The sessions run nightly, so you can come back on Thursday (#204) and Friday (#205) too.

Wednesday is also Hippy Market day in Es Canar. The Punta Arabí market runs from 10:00 to 18:00, and afterwards Es Birra Ibiza keeps the day going with free live music from 19:00 and craft beer on the terrace. It is an easy, relaxed way to turn a market morning into a full day out on the east coast.

Thursday 22 October: The Busiest Night of the Week

Thursday is when the island's restaurants and gardens go all in on live performance, and you will have a genuine choice to make.

Pepe y Vizio at Las Dalias (20:00, free) bring their Granada-born blend of flamenco and urban music to the Garden at Las Dalias. Expect handclaps, guitar and a crowd singing along under the autumn sky. Later the same evening, Dubtaisers and Monkey play the grand finale of the Las Dalias Live Music cycle, with doors at 20:00 and the concert at 21:00. A second Dubtaisers date is listed at Akasha, Hotel Bless, with Macaco presenting the project: reggae, dub and Latin rhythms in a relaxed open-air setting. Check the venue and time before you set off, as the two listings are close together.

Prefer something more intimate? Amorali play a flamenco-flavoured duo set at Cas Costas (20:00, free), with Taty Escobedo on vocals and Toni Munoz on guitar. Just along the coast, Los del Varadero return for their Thursday-night residency at Tribu, near the shore of es Pouet, with rumba and pop from 20:00.

For a different mood, Jahbless headlines the reggae night at Can Jordi Blues Station on the Ibiza–Sant Josep road from 19:00. He is one of the island's best-known reggae voices, with a guitar style and a warm vocal that fans compare to the greats. At Pikes Ibiza, the long-running Bathtub Club hosts one of its last Melon Bomb dates of the season, a house and disco session with free entry from 21:00.

Friday 23 October: Classical Strings, Jazz Keys and a Closing Party

Friday starts with one of the most elegant events of the week. The fourth Eivissa Clàssica chamber-music festival presents Quintet Zèfir in the Sala Capitular at 20:00, performing works by Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Grieg and Medaglia under the title "Los mundos idealizados". Tickets are 8 euros in advance, which makes it superb value for an evening in the historic heart of Ibiza Town.

For jazz, head to Clab in Cala de Bou, where veteran singer and keyboardist Abby Pianoman plays from 20:30 (free). Nearby at the Coral Star Apartments, Music 4 Life deliver a free night of soul, rock and pop covers from 21:00.

If you want to dance, Flash Closing takes over Pikes Ibiza on Friday, with The Pepperbox, DiY Soundsystem x Music for Freaks, Grace Sands, DJ Jack, Pezz and Justin Harris. Music starts at 21:00 and entry is free. Later on, La Tipi brings a late, intimate dance-floor session to Akasha at Las Dalias, with doors from 23:00 and tickets from 15 euros.

Beyond the Stage: Weekend Extras

Live music pairs well with the rest of the autumn calendar. The dTAPASxIBZ tapas contest in Ibiza Town runs until 25 October, with tapas priced from 5 to 10 euros, so it is easy to eat well before the show. Open-water swimmers will also be around for IbiziOWS from 23 to 25 October, and history lovers can catch a theatrical tour of Dalt Vila on Saturday.

Practical Tips for Enjoying Live Music in Ibiza in Autumn

  • Check times the day before. Smaller venues sometimes adjust start times when the weather changes, and autumn evenings can turn breezy. Bring a light jacket for terraces and beach bars.
  • Book dinner where you plan to hear the music. Restaurants like Cas Costas and Tribu fill up first on Thursdays, and a table is the best seat in the house.
  • Plan your transport. Public buses thin out after dark in the off-season, so agree on a taxi or a designated driver before you head to a village venue.
  • Mix your genres. In a single week you can hear rumba, flamenco, reggae, jazz and chamber music. That variety is exactly what makes the Ibiza autumn so appealing.
  • Look for free entry. Most of the concerts above cost nothing, so you can sample several without stretching your budget.
