Ibiza: Much More Than Beaches and Parties

The image of Ibiza as exclusively a party and beach destination became outdated long ago. The island has transformed into a world-class venue for sports events that attract thousands of participants and spectators from around the globe.

The combination of a privileged climate, varied landscapes ranging from beaches to mountains, an exceptional network of rural pathways, and increasingly well-equipped infrastructure has placed Ibiza on the international sports tourism map. Running, swimming, cycling, or sailing here enhances any regular training session tenfold.

Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon

The flagship event on Ibiza's sports calendar is undoubtedly the Santa Eulària Marathon, held every April. With a route that runs along the island's eastern coast, passing through postcard-perfect coves, pine forests and a beautiful seafront promenade, this marathon offers a flat and fast course ideal for setting personal records.

The available categories allow the whole family to participate:

  • Full Marathon — 42 kilometers along the coast
  • Half Marathon — scenic 21 km route
  • 10 km Race — ideal for recreational runners
  • Children's Race — for the youngest participants

The organization is impeccable, with aid stations every five kilometers, medical assistance and a festive atmosphere at the finish line that makes you forget the suffering of the final kilometers.

Trail Running: Mountain Routes

Trail running has experienced a boom in Ibiza in recent years, and for good reason. The island boasts a network of paths and rural roads that wind through landscapes of breathtaking beauty: pine and juniper forests centuries old, clifftops with sea views, almond valleys and red earth fields.

The Ibiza Trail Marathon, held in autumn, is the benchmark event, with routes of fifteen, thirty and forty-two kilometers through the most spectacular trails in the island's north. Shorter races are also organized throughout the year by local clubs.

Trail running in Ibiza is a double experience: you train your body and feed your eyes with landscapes that seem straight out of a postcard.

Triathlon and Multi-Sport Events

Ibiza hosts several triathlons throughout the season, from sprint distances to half Ironman. The Campagnolo Ibiza Half Triathlon, held in May, is one of the most recognized races on the national calendar:

  • Swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Santa Eulària
  • Cycling along panoramic inland roads
  • Running along the coast

The island also hosts duathlon, swimrun and obstacle course races. The level ranges from elite athletes to amateurs simply looking to complete the event while enjoying the surroundings.

Regattas and Competitive Water Sports

Ibiza's port and the waters of the Pitiuses are home to several important regattas throughout the year. The Ruta de la Sal (Salt Route), which connects Denia with Ibiza each Easter, is one of the oldest and most prestigious sailing events in the Spanish Mediterranean, with more than two hundred vessels crossing open sea.

In summer, light sailing and catamaran regattas in the bays of Sant Antoni and Santa Eulària offer a beautiful visual spectacle. The competitive windsurfing season takes place in autumn, when wind conditions are optimal.
