Ibiza Airport: your gateway to the island
Ibiza Airport (IATA code: IBZ) is located about 7 kilometers southwest of Ibiza City, in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia. It's a modern airport with recent improvements, but during peak season it can become quite chaotic if you're not prepared.
After passing through here hundreds of times, I know every corner and every trick to make your experience as smooth as possible.
Arrivals: what to expect when you land
When you land in Ibiza, you're first greeted by a corridor overlooking the runway and, often, notable heat because the jetways aren't always air-conditioned. Baggage collection during peak season means a wait of 20 to 40 minutes.
What you'll find when you exit
- Tourist information office: free maps and brochures about the island
- ATMs and convenience store
- Car rental desks: main companies with airport offices or free shuttle service
Important tip: if you've booked a rental car, go straight to the desk before doing anything else. During peak hours, queues can be up to an hour long.
How to get from the airport to your destination
By bus (the most economical option)
- L10 — Airport → Ibiza City: ~3.50 €, 15–25 minutes, every 20–30 min in summer
- L9 — Airport → Sant Antoni: ~4 €, 30–45 minutes
- For Santa Eulària: no direct line, go to Ibiza City first and change buses
By taxi
The taxi rank is right at the terminal exit. Metered prices:
- Ibiza City center: 15–20 €
- Sant Antoni: 30–35 €
- Santa Eulària: 25–30 €
- Portinatx and remote areas: over 50 €
- Nighttime and holiday supplements apply
Hotel transfer
Many hotels offer transfer service if you request it in advance. Some are free and others cost less than a taxi, especially for distant destinations. Always ask before you arrive.
Departures: tricks for your return day
Your return flight day is when you need to plan the most. In July and August, passenger volume puts facilities to the test.
Recommended arrival times
- Domestic flights: arrive at least 2.5 hours in advance
- International flights: at least 3 hours
- Security queues are longest between 10:00 and 14:00
Tricks to go faster
- Check in online and take only carry-on luggage if you can
- Use self-check-in desks if your airline has them
- After security: souvenir shops, perfume, fashion, cafés (prices 20–30% higher than on the street, but reasonable by European standards)
Useful airport services
- Free wifi
- Charging sockets in various areas of the terminal
- Spacious, accessible bathrooms
- Small children's play area after security control
- Assistance for people with reduced mobility (request through your airline)
If you miss your flight or it gets cancelled
Stay calm. Go to your airline's desk and ask for alternatives. In summer there are many daily flights and they can usually rebook you on another one. If the cancellation is the airline's responsibility, they are required to provide accommodation and meals.
When you arrive at Ibiza Airport, roll down the taxi window. That first blast of warm air with the scent of pine and sea salt is the island's welcome. And when you leave, take one last look out the plane window: Ibiza seen from the air, with its turquoise waters and green pine forests, is an image that will stay with you until your next visit.
