Your Mobile, Your Best Travel Companion in Ibiza
Having lived in Ibiza my whole life, I've seen how technology has transformed the way visitors experience the island. Before, you relied on paper maps and recommendations from your hotel reception desk. Today, with the right apps on your phone, you have the entire island at your fingertips.
Let me share which ones are truly worth downloading and which I use myself when friends come visiting.
Getting Around the Island
Essential Transport Apps
- Ibiza Bus — real-time schedules and routes for intercity buses. Basic but functional, it saves you unnecessary waiting around
- Radio Taxi de Ibiza — request a taxi from your phone, see estimated fares and track your vehicle. Much more effective than flagging one down during high season
- Google Maps — works perfectly for main roads, but can fail on rural paths and cove access routes
- Maps.me — detailed offline maps that include trails and unpaved roads that Google doesn't show
Download offline maps of the island before leaving your hotel. In many coastal and inland areas, mobile coverage is limited or non-existent.
Discovering Beaches and Coves
- Windy — sea and wind conditions updated hourly. If the wind blows from the north, the southern coves will be calm, and vice versa. Essential for choosing the perfect beach each day
- AEMET — Spain's meteorological agency nails local forecasts much better than international weather apps
- Webcams de Ibiza — live images from various beaches so you can see sea conditions in real time
Eating and Going Out
Restaurants and Gastronomy
- Google Maps (reviews) — locals leave reviews here more than anywhere else, and they're the most honest. Filter by recent reviews and in Spanish to find where we actually eat
- TheFork — book a table with discounts of 30–40% at excellent restaurants
- Too Good To Go — leftover food at reduced prices, great for your wallet and fighting food waste
Nightlife
- Ibiza Spotlight — updated programming of parties and events across the island
Activities and Excursions
- GetYourGuide / Civitatis — boat trips, kayaking, snorkeling, guided hikes and cultural tours, many with free cancellation
- Wikiloc — hundreds of hiking routes recorded by users in Ibiza and Formentera, with downloadable GPS tracks, photos and comments
General Utility Apps
- Bizum — peer-to-peer payments, accepted at many beach bars and markets. Requires a Spanish bank account
- Google Translate — download the Spanish language pack for offline use. The camera function that translates signs and menus in real time is especially useful
- WhatsApp / Telegram — work with wifi across the island. Almost all bars, restaurants and hotels offer free wifi
If you're coming from the European Union, you can use your data plan without extra charges thanks to included roaming.
